Fırat Sunel was born on February 21, 1966, in Ödemiş. He completed his primary and secondary education in İzmir. After graduating from Istanbul University Faculty of Law, he went to Germany and obtained a master’s degree in Law from Bochum Ruhr University. In 1993, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he served in various central positions and had a diplomatic career in centers such as Bangkok, Bonn, Essen, and Tbilisi. From 2009 to 2013, he served as the Consul General in Düsseldorf. Between 2013 and 2016, he served as the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Asmara, Eritrea, as the founding Ambassador. From 2016 to 2021, he served as the First Legal Advisor and Director-General for Legal Services at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since May 2021, Ambassador Sunel has been serving as the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to India, Nepal, and Bhutan. Fırat Sunel, who is fluent in English, German, and Spanish, has authored novels titled “In the Shade of Weeping Willows” (2011), “Izmirli, My Last Love” (2015), and “The Lighthouse Family” (2020). His novel “In The Shade of Weeping Willows” has been adapted into a TV series titled “The Great Exile: Caucasus.”
