Feridun Oral was born in Kırıkkale in 1961. He graduated from Marmara University’s Faculty of Fine Arts in 1985. He has illustrated his own children’s books as well as those of other authors. He has participated in many national and international exhibitions, biennials and competitions and his works have been published widely nationally and internationally. His book entitled The Blackberry Gnome and The Yellow Beak (Böğürtlen Cini ve Sarı Gaga, 2000) was the runner-up in the UNESCO Noma-Concours in Japan. He received the honour award at the European Illustrators’ Biennial with his work, Dream Cats (Düş Kediler), again in Japan. Apart from his illustrations, Oral has also exhibited his paintings, ceramic works, and sculptures. He continues to work in his atelier in Istanbul.
