Acclaimed writer Ahmet Büke began writing short stories at the age of thirty-two, and has since emerged as a distinctive voice in the Turkish contemporary literature scene. Praised for his ability to interweave place, history and character with ease, his writing has been compared with Yaşar Kemal and Sabahattin Ali for its rich, pure language. His book Forehead in Blue (Alnı Mavide) published in 2008, has won the Oğuz Atay Story Award in the same year, and another book Bird’s Eye View (Kumrunun Gördüğü) published in 2010, has won the Sait Faik Story Award in 2011. His modern island and sea story, The Blood of the Sea (Deli İbrahim Divanı) published in 2021, has won the Vedat Türkali Novel Award a year later after published. Büke believes that literature can change the world, and that no story can be separated from its politics. He lives in Izmir, a character that features prominently in many of his stories.
