BSONY DSCorn in Istanbul in 1943, Sevinç Çokum is a graduate in Turcology from the Faculty of Letters of Istanbul University. She also took courses in sociology during her graduate education. She had a teaching career of three years, during which she taught Turkish literature at a high school. She was a member of a committee of the Ministry of Culture for publications of popular works and reading material for children. Her interest in literature goes back to her high school years when she had already begun composing poems. Her poems and stories appeared in various literary magazines. Between 1977-79 she was the editor of a literary magazine and between 1981-85 she acted as manager of a publishing house. In the meantime she had begun writing novels, short stories, radio plays, and movie scripts.
